What does it mean to write defiantly and with tenderness? How can we bring main character energy into our writing and into our own narratives while not turning away from what the universe offers?
Defiance can be a powerful tool or it can be a way of avoiding life on life’s terms. But I have only come to understand the latter in the past several years. Early in my life, I used defiance to protect myself from racism in my family, from religious indoctrination and essentially from any sort of vulnerability.
