Please consider these summer Substack posts to be part of an ongoing saga of transition (this is your warning, I guess!). This part in the series is called “While Cleaning Out 25 years of Stuff from My Husband’s Attic, I Find ‘Treasures.’”

Like this book, for example. It is called “Book of North American Birds” and was put out by Reader’s Digest in 1990. When I came across it, I flipped through it and became highly entertained by the stylized descriptions used in describing “bird behaviors.” When I looked to see who wrote the book, I found that several different writers were hired for this purpose, but were not specifically identified by section. In any case, I took photos of three that I found particularly peculiar, humorous and/or fascinating. Our prompts today will be inspired by these write-ups which are now a relic in my new home. I’ve been reading about two birds each day and annotating for poetry.
